Triangle Unit Meeting – Ayurveda for Bodyworkers

Presenter:  Shoshanna Hamburg, (NC LMBT #7546, NCBTMB #388174-00)

Class Description

Ayurveda is an ancient science & healing system which emphasizes the vitality and well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. This holistic system addresses the root cause of disease by incorporating the use of herbs, appropriate foods, meditation, yoga, and bodywork. Based on your unique constitution,The Tri Dosha Model (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) arises from the Five Elements (Ether, Air, Fire, Water, Earth) and their specific combination determines our physical, and psychological nature.

For good health we must strive to keep ourselves balanced in ways that are appropriate for each of us as individuals, not a one size fits all. One important way this can be done is through Ayurvedic bodywork.

This workshop is designed to introduce therapists to foundational Ayurvedic principles and applications of body treatments as well as personal self-care techniques.

We will explore the psychological and physical attributes of the three Dosha’s and discuss how to create treatments that help bring balance to our clients.

Experience the benefits of these Ayurvedic treatments:

  • Abhyanga- herbal warm oil massage
  • Garshana- full body exfoliation
  • Shirobhyanga- warm oil scalp massage, hot towel steam & marma facial

The self-care techniques to be discussed will be:

  • Warm oil self-massage
  • Neti pot use & Naysa oil application
  • Tongue scraping
