Class Description

This course provides hands-on instruction of innovative techniques derived from a wide variety of bodywork traditions – including lymphatic drainage, acupressure, myofascial release, Thai and energetic modalities – for application to the release of blockages in the paranasal sinus cavities.  Embellished with relevant theory, handouts, anatomy and physiology, this seminar adds the ability to offer relief to clients suffering from a vast variety of sinus ailments to the existing skills of practicing bodyworkers and massage therapists.

Presenter Bio:

Sandy Mason has been a massage therapy instructor for over 16 years.  She is currently Clinical Education Coordinator and full-time Instructor at Forsyth Technical Community College in North Carolina, in both the entry-level and Associate Degree Therapeutic Massage Programs. Sandy is a NCBTMB Approved Provider and has presented classes for many AMTA-NC Units over the years, as well as the 2014 AMTA National Convention in Denver. Her passion for elevating educational standards for our profession is evident in her active roles in the AFMTE (Alliance for Massage Therapy Education) where she has helped to develop Teaching Standards for the industry, and currently serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer. Sandy has most recently become one of the first 9 educators to receive official Teacher Certification status from The Alliance. She has been a textbook reviewer, contributing author and subject matter expert for exam development in the profession, and runs a private practice in Winston-Salem.

Attendees learn to reduce the physical demands of their work on their own bodies while still providing a thorough hands-on treatment to their clients. Combining lecture and discussion with fun, innovative activities and plenty of hands-on practice, the workshops are taught in an informal style that encourages active participation. Attendees come away from the workshop with an excellent overview of ergonomics and injury prevention principles, and a self-care action plan including changes they will make to their practice based on what they have learned.

HISTORY
A comprehensive must have course for professionals introducing them to the history of MLD and it’s Founder, Dr. Emil Vodder and subsequent spread to the United States through Dr. Robert Lerner and his LTS Clinics. A&P

INTERACTIVE
The Tour continues with an introduction to the Anatomy & Physiology of the Lymph System in a fun and interactive format.

HANDS ON LAB
The hands-on lab instructs on how to perform a 50 minute full body basic protocol, which is the number one most requested protocols by referring physicians in the U.S today.

RESEARCH & DIDACTICS
Next, the class will have an overview of pathophysiology, research, indications & contraindications complete with photos of case studies from the LTS Clinic.

HANDS ON LAB (Assessments, Compression & Lymphosize)
We Will conclude the tour with assessment tools and follow-up care introducing the latest in lymph compression wear and lymphosize exercises made popular by professional athletes.

Class Description

This is a fun and engaging class designed for the therapist who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the intricate role the fascial system plays in shoulder dysfunction This class will consist of pertinent anatomy, common pain conditions and pathologies associated with the shoulder, fine-tuning of palpation skills, treatment techniques,  and plenty of guided hands-on practice. Students new to fascial therapy, as well as seasoned fascial therapists will leave this class having gained new perspectives and techniques they can immediately implement into their current practice. Students should dress comfortably and come expecting and prepared to do and receive hands-on work for the entire class.  Please bring a table, linens, and bolster. If possible, do not apply any lotions or creams the day of class.

One of the most difficult things to deal with as a massage therapist can be the threat of an inappropriate client.
