Class Description

We are pleased to announce the start of the Southeast Region CSMT Emergency Response Division! The NC Chapter of AMTA will be holding a Responder Training on Saturday, May 4, 2019 (Followed by the Team Leader Training on Sunday, May 5, 2019 – Responder Training is a prerequisite for Team Leader Training).

This new outreach program was formed from the concept of MERT (Massage Emergency Response Team), which was established in 1989 following the Loma Prieta, California Earthquake. The CSMT played a significant role in 9/11 at Ground Zero and again at the Sandy Hook School Shooting in 2012, among many other emergency situations.

CSMT was developed because of the need to maintain a readiness for such emergencies and have an active presence in the community. The growth of this program is continuing to evolve in NC.  We would like to invite you, along with AMTA Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapists from our neighboring states, to join us in this training and, upon completion of training, become a member of our Southeast Region Community Service Massage Team!!

Are you ready to get started? This training is for the first level of training as Emergency Responders. We will hold a Team Leader Training on Sunday, May 5, 2019.

CSMT Member Eligibility Requirements:

  • AMTA Professional Member with insurance coverage.
  • Completion of the CSMT responder training course 8 hours LIVE
  • For Team Leader complete additional 8 hours  LIVE
  • Completed application to the AMTA-NC chapter  (can be done at class)

Naomi Baker, LMBT 11372 is a licensed massage and bodywork therapist residing in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is a 2011 Honors graduate of the Diploma Therapeutic Massage Program of Forsyth Technical Community College.  As a “professional” student, Naomi has accumulated more than 300 hours of exceptional continuing education since 2011. Out of all those hours, she credits Lomi Lomi training as the most influential for her, both professionally and personally. Regardless of modality, Naomi brings the heart of Lomi Lomi to each bodywork session and to the classroom.

Presenter Bio:

Sandy Mason has been a massage therapy instructor for over 16 years.  She is currently Clinical Education Coordinator and full-time Instructor at Forsyth Technical Community College in North Carolina, in both the entry-level and Associate Degree Therapeutic Massage Programs. Sandy is a NCBTMB Approved Provider and has presented classes for many AMTA-NC Units over the years, as well as the 2014 AMTA National Convention in Denver. Her passion for elevating educational standards for our profession is evident in her active roles in the AFMTE (Alliance for Massage Therapy Education) where she has helped to develop Teaching Standards for the industry, and currently serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer. Sandy has most recently become one of the first 9 educators to receive official Teacher Certification status from The Alliance. She has been a textbook reviewer, contributing author and subject matter expert for exam development in the profession, and runs a private practice in Winston-Salem.

INTERACTIVE
The Tour continues with an introduction to the Anatomy & Physiology of the Lymph System in a fun and interactive format.

HANDS ON LAB
The hands-on lab instructs on how to perform a 50 minute full body basic protocol, which is the number one most requested protocols by referring physicians in the U.S today.

RESEARCH & DIDACTICS
Next, the class will have an overview of pathophysiology, research, indications & contraindications complete with photos of case studies from the LTS Clinic.

This is a fun and engaging class designed for the therapist who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the intricate role the fascial system plays in shoulder dysfunction This class will consist of pertinent anatomy, common pain conditions and pathologies associated with the shoulder, fine-tuning of palpation skills, treatment techniques,  and plenty of guided hands-on practice. Students new to fascial therapy, as well as seasoned fascial therapists will leave this class having gained new perspectives and techniques they can immediately implement into their current practice. Students should dress comfortably and come expecting and prepared to do and receive hands-on work for the entire class.  Please bring a table, linens, and bolster.
