Regional Education INFORMATION:

Regional Education:  The state of North Carolina divided up into 6 small geographical areas (by counties) to provide low-cost, continuing education & networking opportunities at a local/close- to-home locale.  It is the goal of AMTA-NC  to subdivide these 6 regions again & have 12 regions throughout the state thereby doubling the opportunities for CE’s and saving time & money in travel.  To achieve this we need more coordinators. Please consider helping your AMTA-NC Chapter & membership by volunteering as a Regional Education Coordinator.

Regional Education generally have two local meetings a year; That is 12 local meetings through-out the state for our members continuing education needs. Unit meetings are usually 3 – 6 hours of Continuing Education Credits with an Ethics classes offered every other year.

The first time I heard about AMTA was while studying at Body Therapy Institute. I became a student member and later a professional member.  I joined mainly for the liability insurance coverage. I enjoyed glancing through the Hands-On® newsletter and reading mtj® that all AMTA members receive.

It was years later that I began utilizing some of the other membership benefits, attending AMTA-NC conventions, reading and sharing research and position statements. At an AMTA-NC Convention in Raleigh, Ed Sansbury awarded me a 10 year member gift. I thought that was really nice and I was touched that an organization as large as AMTA would recognize and appreciate a member like me.

More years past and during the AMTA-NC Convention in 2011 I attended a volunteers’ luncheon. I was volunteered to volunteer as Triad Unit Coordinator. That “what just happened” moment was the beginning of my truly understanding the many, many benefits of AMTA that are available to all our members. I am grateful to that person who volunteered me.

As an AMTA-NC volunteer I receive email communications from our BOD, attend meetings and conference calls. As I get to know our BOD I witness their passion and commitment to the AMTA mission statement,“To serve AMTA members while advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy.” These remarkable women and men carry those words in their hearts and live their lives accordingly.

Two of my passions are learning and teaching. The primary responsibility of Unit Coordinators is to organize local continuing education for the unit’s members.  It is a joy to talk, meet and work with many extraordinary teachers, especially those who call NC home. I attended my first Unit CE class as part of the training for Unit Coordinator. I cannot believe that I had never taken advantage of this great benefit of affordable, local Unit CE’s! I hope you will join us and utilize this AMTA benefit.

I was graced to have been awarded a scholarship for the 2012 AMTA National Convention in Raleigh, NC as an extremely generous thank you for the work I have performed as Triad Unit Coordinator. It was an excellent opportunity to meet our AMTA National leaders and those from various Chapters throughout the US as well as the Massage Therapy Foundation leaders. They are heart-centered professionals working tirelessly “to serve AMTA members while advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy.”

Southeast Regional Education Coordinator

Michele Mantzakanian

I’m a licensed massage therapist from Maryland.  My husband and I recently moved to NC a couple years ago.  We love our new community of New Bern and being close to the beach and on the golf course!

It is my intention to help provide quality massage care to anyone who might need assistance.  I’ve been a massage therapist for over 16 years, trained at PMTI in Washington DC.  Had a private practice in MD, also worked with chiropractors, physical therapists, hospice and hospitals.  Trained in most modalities, incorporate many techniques to assist with overall wellness!

Recently got my NC massage license in 2018 and began working with another local therapist at Balanced Hands & Bodywork in New Bern.

Love entertaining, cooking, swimming, volunteering, outdoor activities and of course family & friends!
